Restoring Smiles with Dental Crowns & Bridges
You may think that a single cracked, decayed, or missing tooth isn’t serious, but the truth is, these areas quickly worsen over time leading to more serious dental trauma and discomfort. In these instances, Dr. Peter Vastardis often recommends a custom dental crown and/or bridge to replace and rejuvenate the tooth structure you lost. Our team will take the time to design and place the ideal restoration for your unique smile, and all-ceramic options are available for image-conscious patients. We welcome patients from Franklin Square and nearby areas to contact us today and schedule an appointment!
Dental crowns are designed to fit over the white portion of one natural tooth improving its strength, its shape, its appearance, and its function. There are several reasons why Dr. Vastardis may recommend having a dental crown placed, including:
- Treating a tooth that’s too severely decayed for a filling to treat
- Protecting a tooth that’s become significantly weakened over time from the threat of damage
- Restoring a tooth that’s become broken/fractured
- Improving the cosmetic appearance of a tooth that’s misshapen or unsymmetrical.
Dental crowns can also be vital components in root canal and dental implant procedures. Additionally, they’re used in conjunction with dental bridges as an option for tooth replacement.
Patients who find themselves dissatisfied with the looseness of dentures may prefer dental bridges as a sturdier, more permanent alternative. This restoration is designed to replace one or more missing teeth in a row along the same arch; healthy teeth on either side of the gap are required, as this is where our team will place additional dental crowns as “anchors” to hold the bridge in place.
Both crowns and bridges typically require two to three appointments to complete at Garden City Dentistry. During your first visit, Dr. Vastardis will prepare the tooth and take digital impressions to send to our dental laboratory; he will also place a temporary restoration so that the area is well protected in the interim. Once the finished crown and/or bridge is complete, you’ll be invited back so we can make any necessary adjustments and cement it in place.
