Digital X-Rays with DEXIS

In the past, X-rays had to be developed slowly in a darkroom, handled with hazardous chemicals, and stored in bulky filing systems. Thankfully, this advanced technology has transformed the process for the better. Here at our practice, patients from West Hempstead and surrounding areas can look forward to a simple and quick process – in fact, capturing the images only takes a few seconds! They’re then instantly transferred to our computer system and displayed on a monitor; our team members can magnify them, rotate them, and color-code them for educational purposes.

Do you need your X-rays transferred to an outside specialist or insurance company? This can all be accomplished electronically now, and storage is simpler and more environmentally friendly too. Best of all, the amount of radiation we’ll need to rely on to capture these images is reduced by up to 90%, making them safer for our valued patients.
Intraoral Digital Camera

With the help of state-of-the-art intraoral cameras, patients don’t have to be unknowing participants in the journey towards lifelong oral health and happiness. Instead, Dr. Vastardis is happy to help them become fully informed partners. This camera-tipped wand is safely inserted into the patient’s mouth, transmitting high-resolution video to a conveniently placed TV monitor in the treatment room. This allows our team to point out problematic areas, explain the scope of certain services, and review the effectiveness of ongoing treatment in a very clear and easy to understand fashion.

Digital Impressions

Older patients are surely familiar with the unpleasant “goop” that had to be placed in the mouth for your doctor to take oral impressions. With the help of digital impressions, this technique is a thing of the past at our practice. Additional benefits include:

Turnaround time on the permanent restoration is significantly reduced.
Accuracy is greatly improved and the need for “remakes” is much less likely.
The patient can remain comfortable throughout the process, no gagging required.
Dr. Vastardis uses the 3M True Definition Digital Imaging Impression system for this process, and the results he achieves are simply exceptional. With this technology, our team is able to view each case in amazing detail, create precise digital files for the laboratory, and give patients a much more educational experience overall. In fact, by being able to show real-time images of their teeth onscreen, we can help them achieve a clear understanding of their smile’s needs and their treatment.

VELscope® VX

Early detection of oral cancer greatly increases the chances of successful treatment. Unfortunately, oral cancer is often not caught until it has reached its later stages. With the VELscope® VX, we can get a better, more accurate look at your oral tissues to help us spot troublesome areas sooner.

Traditional methods for detecting oral cancer rely on the reflection of light to visualize the oral cavity -- a method that doesn’t always yield the most accurate results. The VELscope® VX, however, is an enhanced oral assessment system that uses the natural fluorescence of the tissues in your mouth to reveal information. This device doesn’t require any dyes, prolonged testing procedures, or any discomfort at all. The VELscope® VX exam is completed in just a few minutes alongside your regular checkup and cleaning.

 3M™ True Definition Scanner

If you have ever had braces or restorative dental care, like a dental crown or bridge, you know what traditional impressions taste like. Patients with sensitive gag reflexes may be especially affected by these traditional impressions. Garden City Dental Associates uses the 3M™ True Definition Scanner, an intraoral camera that allows your dentist to capture a digital impression of your teeth and oral structures.

In addition to being far more comfortable than traditional dental impressions, the 3M™ True Definition Scanner also provides unparalleled accuracy. With 3D-in-motion technology, your dentist can see a true replica of your mouth on the screen, in real time. This accuracy leads to better, more informed treatment planning, and more successful results overall. Real time images also help us involve you in your own treatment process, showing you problem areas on the screen and giving you the opportunity to fully understand what’s going on with your dental health.

 PeriRX SaliMark™ OSCC
When a suspicious area in your mouth requires extra testing, the PeriRX SaliMark™ OSCC oral cancer salivary diagnostic test gives us faster, better results regarding the presence of or risk for oral cancer. To administer the test, we first collect samples of your saliva in our office. This information is sent to a testing lab via overnight mail. The lab tests for certain biomarkers in the saliva that indicate the presence of or risk for oral cancer. Once thorough testing is complete, the results are sent back to our office -- all within 72 hours.
