Replacing Old, Worn-Out, Silver Amalgam Fillings
Are you unhappy with all the silver that shows when you smile? Thanks
to modern dentistry, these old silver fillings can be replaced with new,
tooth-colored, composite or porcelain fillings that are bonded to the
teeth. In the few situations that a cavity may have left a large space
and cannot safely hold a new filling, a dentist can place a tooth-colored
inlay or onlay. Again, this process looks natural and can be made in a
dental laboratory from impressions that were taken from your teeth.

Oral Appliances
Most people snore because an upper airway obstruction occurs when the
muscles of the palate, the uvula and sometimes the tonsils relax during
deep sleep and act as vibrating noisemakers.
Others snore because of long, floppy palates or uvulas or too much tissue
at the back of the throat.
Oral appliance therapy is the use of a device that fits in the patients
mouth and moves the lower jaw into a forward position causing the space
in the airway to increase and the air velocity and soft tissue vibration
to decrease. These devices open the airway during sleep. These appliances
can vary in design, but all have the same purpose in the end -- to assist
in maintaining an open airway for the patient while they sleep.
One device is the "Silent Nite", a comparatively small device
with tiny connectors attached to transparent flexible upper and lower
forms. The forms are custom laminated with heat and pressure to the dentist's
model of the mouth.

Some things you can do to help combat bad breath
- Visit your dentist regularly.
- Have your teeth cleaned periodically by a dental hygienist.
- Always remember to floss. Choosing unscented floss enables you to
detect areas between your teeth that give off odors so you can clean
them more carefully.
- Brush your teeth and gums properly. Ask your dentist to recommend
a toothbrush or scraper for your tongue. Clean your tongue all the way
back gently, but thoroughly.
- Drink plenty of liquids.
- Chew sugar-free gum, especially if your mouth feels dry.
- Clean your mouth after eating or drinking milk products, fish and
meat.
- Get control over the problem. Ask a family member to tell you whenever
you have bad breath.
- If someone in your family or a close friend has bad breath, find a
kind way to let them know.
- Ask your dentist to recommend a mouthwash which has been
shown to be clinically effective in fighting bad breath.
Professional diagnosis and treatment can be of benefit in analyzing your
particular cause of bad breath and help with a possible solution
